A taste of the freshest posts from Beyond Beeton

I recently decided that I was going to adjust my eating habits.

This is the bit where I get all accountable.  I had some small wins.  I haven't been snacking just for the hell of it.  I have however been snacking for sheer pleasure. When I'm not hungry.  So while that isn't perfectly ideal from a health perspective, it is totally ok from a greedy pleasure perspective.  I think I've enjoyed my snacks more too - because I'm thinking about it more.  I also really know which likely over-processed snacky treats I will NEVER GIVE UP:

- Cadbury drinking chocolate.  While Five Senses has an awesome premium drinking chocolate range yes, I said RANGE - that includes white chocolate(!)  and Bannister Downs has excellent iced cafe au lait and chocolatte that makes me weak at the knees, there will always be room in my heart (and on my nose) for the cadbury classic.

- Cascade Ginger Beer and Sparkling Apple Juice. Ooh my lovely non-alcoholic friends.  When you have the alcohol tolerance of a mosquito sometimes it is handy to be armed with something non-alcoholic.  These two float my boat and look beer-ish enough to stop people pointing at the loser who isn't drinking.  And no, I WILL NOT BE THE DESIGNATED DRIVER.  One or two glasses of wine is probably enough to make me hurt Mr Kerb and Mr Silly Overpriced Car Rim Wheel Thingos and we don't want that do we?

- Lindt Lindor Balls (dark chocolate or mint). Need I say more?

I have no idea whether I have lost any weight or not because I was too gutless to weigh myself.  I still don't pass the last year's jeans test though.

I have also been swimming which could almost count as exercise if there was a bit more lap swimming and a little bit less lazing about on an oversized blue thong. Yes.  Thong.  For those in the US I mean a giant flip flop.  Yes I understand that still doesn't make any sense.  Um.  Anyway.  I promise there is a giant inflatable blue thong and I DID NOT IMAGINE IT.

At any rate I am making an effort and (hopefully) not turning into a carrot-bore.

BTW: lovely happy grateful thanks to the very awesome Flying Taco who satisfied my salty cheesy craving with sheer awesome enjoyment in mere minutes without having to resort to a drive-thru or a second mortgage.

How are you going 2 weeks on with your eating revolution? I recently had to keep a food diary for a week, including rough idea of quantities. It made me really aware about what I actually was eating throughout the day (or not eating, as was the case with fruit). Definitely helped me 'healthy-up' my eating without worrying about dieting or low kJ anything.
I'm heading to Perth soon and have put the call-out on my blog for some must visit places. Do you have any favourite places I simply couldn't miss?

Keeping a food diary is definitely an eye opening experience! I've used http://calorieking.com.au in more serious times and it was very useful.

When are you coming over to Perth? I'm heading on holidays shortly but if I'm around I'd be happy to arrange a small group of Perth foodies to meet you for dinner if you'd like?

Some worthy places in Perth (I don't like recommendations, but its a necessary evil!):
    Jacksons Highgate
    Must Wine Bar Highgate
    Cantina 663 Mt Lawley
    Balthazar Perth
    Ha-Lu Mt Hawthorn
    Nahm Thai Northbridge
    Divido Mt Hawthorn
    Little Creatures Fremantle
    Harvest Fremantle

For quick and cheap Asian food the William Street area in Northbridge is a goldmine.

I do have to warn you that generally speaking Perth food is more expensive than its Melbourne equivalent and people tend to eat early here.

Ah yes, people have told me about the expense in Perth. Fortunately for my wallet (unfortunate for my stomach) we've ruled out a trip to Margaret River, so I can perhaps treat myself just that little bit extra in town.
We're flying over on Friday for 6 nights, with the first half packed full of wedding festivities (the reason for the trip). It's lovely of you to offer to get some people together for a meal but I think I'd feel a little embarrassed. I hope to keep blogging while I'm over there so I'll let you know how my explorations are going.
Thanks for the recommendations-I agree, it's almost as risky as giving a reference for someone. I promise not to hold you accountable if we make it to a recommendation and they're having a bad day.
